Terms of Service

How to read, share and use Off-Pitch Journal, and what to expect from the website.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Service explain how you may use the Off-Pitch Journal website at offpitchjournal.com and its editorial content. In this document, “Off-Pitch Journal”, “OPJ”, “we” and “our” refer to the publication. “You” means a person visiting or using the website.

Please read these terms before using the website. Use it in accordance with these terms and applicable law. If you do not agree to these terms, please stop using the website. Nothing here removes rights that the law gives you and does not allow you to waive.

2. What the Journal provides

Off-Pitch Journal publishes articles and commentary about the culture, business and style of sport. The current website offers free editorial reading and a way to contact the Journal. It does not offer paid reader subscriptions, online purchases or public reader comments.

These terms cover the website as it operates today. If we introduce paid services, reader accounts, competitions or other features with additional obligations, we will provide the relevant terms before you choose to use them. Simply visiting the website does not enrol you in a paid service.

3. Reading, sharing and reusing content

Articles, illustrations, photographs, branding and other material may be protected by copyright, trade marks or other rights. Those rights belong to their respective holders, which may include OPJ, contributors and third-party rights holders. A credit identifies a source or creator; it is not, by itself, a licence to reuse the material.

You are welcome to read the Journal, share links to its pages and keep a copy of our articles for personal reference, unless a separate rights notice says otherwise. Keep attribution and rights notices intact. You may quote material where applicable law permits, with appropriate acknowledgement and a link to the source.

For republication of complete articles, syndication, commercial reproduction or separate use of images, obtain permission from the relevant rights holder unless the law already permits that use. Contact us about OPJ permissions. We cannot grant rights in third-party material that we do not control. These terms do not restrict statutory exceptions such as lawful quotation, criticism or review.

4. Responsible use

Please use the website in a way that respects other people, their rights and the operation of the Journal. You must not:

  • Attempt to enter restricted systems or obtain information you are not authorised to access, or bypass access controls.
  • Introduce malicious code, deliberately overload the website or use automated requests that disrupt its availability.
  • Use the contact form for spam, impersonation, threats, harassment or unlawful material.
  • Copy or republish substantial parts of the Journal without permission where permission is required, or present our work as your own.

Ordinary search indexing, assistive tools and personal reading tools are not prohibited merely because they are automated. They must respect applicable law, access restrictions and reasonable technical limits.

5. Editorial information and corrections

Our articles provide general information, reporting and opinion. They are not personalised legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. Coverage of an athlete, brand, product or business is not a promise about its quality, future performance or suitability for you.

Facts, prices, relationships and circumstances can change after an article is written. Check the publication date and any updates, and seek appropriate advice before decisions that require it. If you identify an error, please use Contact Us and include the article link, the passage concerned and supporting information so we can assess it.

6. Messages, pitches and other material you send

Send only material you are entitled to share. You retain any rights you hold in your messages and submissions. Sending a message allows us to receive, review and respond to it, including using the service providers needed to handle correspondence, as described in our Privacy & Cookie Policy. It does not transfer ownership of your work to OPJ.

A pitch or message does not create a commission, a promise of publication or an entitlement to payment. If we wish to publish a submitted article, photograph or other creative work, we will agree the relevant permission and any payment separately. Please ask about an appropriate contact method before sending highly sensitive or confidential material; the ordinary contact form is not a dedicated confidential reporting channel.

7. External links and commercial relationships

Articles may link to sources, brands and other websites. External websites operate under their own terms and privacy practices, and their content or availability may change. A link alone does not mean that OPJ endorses everything on the destination website or has a commercial relationship with it.

Any purchase you choose to make from another website is with that seller, not OPJ. If we publish paid partnerships, sponsored material or links that earn us a commission, we will identify the relevant commercial relationship. Advertising and partnership bookings require a separate agreement; these reader terms are not an advertising contract.

8. Privacy and your choices

Our Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how website and contact-message data are handled. You can manage optional analytics through “Your Privacy Choices” in the footer. Reading these terms or sending us an enquiry is not consent to optional analytics or marketing emails.

9. Availability and access

We may update the website and its content, and may need to interrupt access for maintenance, security incidents, exceptional traffic or other operational reasons. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that every page will remain available permanently.

We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address misuse, protect the website or meet a legal obligation. If you believe a restriction has been applied incorrectly, contact us using an available method on our Contact Us page. These measures do not remove any remedy available to you under applicable law.

10. Responsibility and liability

We remain responsible for the website to the extent required by applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, deliberate wrongdoing, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory consumer rights are preserved.

Subject to those protections and only where the law permits, OPJ is not responsible for business losses, such as lost profits or business opportunities, arising from treating general editorial content as advice tailored to your business. The Journal does not promise a particular outcome from following an opinion, recommendation or external link. These terms do not impose a general obligation on you to reimburse our legal costs.

11. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms to reflect changes to the website, legal requirements or the way we operate. We will update the date above and provide additional notice where the law requires it. Changes apply prospectively and do not retrospectively remove rights relating to earlier events. If a new feature requires your express agreement, we will ask for it separately.

12. Questions, rights concerns and disputes

For questions about these terms, permissions, corrections or a rights concern, please use Contact Us. For a content complaint, identify the page and material concerned, explain the issue and provide a way for us to respond. Include only personal information needed to assess your request.

We encourage you to contact us to try to resolve a concern. This does not prevent you from seeking assistance from a competent authority or bringing a claim. Applicable law determines which law and courts have jurisdiction, including any mandatory protections available to consumers in their country of residence. These terms do not require arbitration or give OPJ the exclusive right to decide a dispute.

If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue only to the extent that they can lawfully operate without it. A delay in exercising a right does not, by itself, mean that the right has been given up.
